TBLS Weekly Update 9/25- 9/29

Hey there TBLS members! The school year may be heating up, but I hope y’all are keeping it chill. Below please find information about our upcoming events, including our 1L happy hour this Thursday!


1L Happy Hour – TBLS is having its annual Welcome Happy Hour this Thursday, September 28, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Dogwood on West 6th.  Please come out and help us welcome the 1L class!  This event is open to all 1Ls and dues-paying 2Ls and 3Ls.

Real Talk and Tacos- Dues paying members can stop by to pick up their shirts and get free breakfast tacos this Monday, October 2, from 7:30-10:00 am in the Sheffield Room. Grab some breakfast and meet other TBLS members before heading to class!

Dues – The fee schedule is as follows:


1Ls – $55

LLMs- $55

2Ls  & 3Ls (New to TBLS) – $30

2Ls (Returning) – $20

3Ls (Returning) – $10


To pay dues: As you will see below, several of our events and society shirts are only available for dues paying members, you can pay dues in several ways

Cash or Check- Please leave a clearly marked envelope with your name and email at the TBLS mailbox at the communications center in the atrium. Checks can be made payable to the Texas Business Law Society.  Email txbusinesslaw@gmail.com when you drop off dues so that someone can collect them.

Card- Come to this Thursday’s 1L Happy Hour where we will have Square set up to take your Credit or Debit card.

Venmo- Venmo our VP of Internal Affairs Reed Hash, at @Reed-Hash. Place your name and year level in the subject line.


10/18 Baker McKenzie Presentation – On Wednesday, October 18 at 11:30 a.m., lawyers from Baker McKenzie will be coming to deliver a presentation titled, “A Day in the Life of a Transactional Attorney” in the Sheffield Room.  This presentation will provide an overview of the daily responsibilities of a transactional lawyer and how various transactional practice fields intersect with one another. RSVP here.

10/25 Associate Luncheon – TBLS is hosting its annual associate luncheon on Wednesday, October 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Joe Jamail Pavilion. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear first hand about what it is like to practice transactional law straight from the field. Attorneys will be attending from Sidley Austin, Kirkland & Ellis, Haynes & Boone, Bracewell and Morgan Lewis.  Remember, attendance is limited and for dues paying members only, and you must RSVP to attend. Business casual attire is required for attendance. RSVP here.

Texas Venture Labs- Texas Venture Labs is a course where graduate students from Law, MBA, and sciences learn about how to get a new company investor ready and they apply those skills as part of team consulting to Austin startups.  Texas Venture Labs has an info session on Wednesday 9/20 at 12pm in TNH 2.137 and applications on their website are due 10/2 by 8am.  For more information, contact Jim Lemoine at jim.lemoine@mccombs.utexas.edu.
