LawMeet – If you are a student interested in honing your skills as a transactional attorney sign up for the TBLS Intramural Transactional LawMeet here! The information sessions for 1Ls will be Sept. 18th from 5:30-8 PM. The Practicum for 2Ls, 3Ls, and LLMs will be Sept. 22nd from 1-4 PM. The competition will take place Sept. 30 and be followed by a reception.

Dues – TBLS’s fee system this year is as follows:
1Ls – $55
2Ls & 3Ls (New to TBLS) – $30
2Ls (Returning) – $20
3Ls (Returning) – $10
To pay dues: Please leave a clearly marked envelope with your name and email at the TBLS mailbox at the communications center in the atrium. Checks can be made payable to the Texas Business Law Society. Email email@example.com when you drop off dues so that someone can collect them. As you will see below, several of our events and society shirts are only available for dues paying members.
9/28 1L Welcome Happy Hour – TBLS is having its annual Welcome Happy Hour this Thursday, September 28, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Dogwood on West 6th. Please come out and help us welcome the 1L class! This event is open to all 1Ls and dues-paying 2Ls and 3Ls.
10/25 Associate Luncheon – TBLS is hosting its annual associate luncheon on Wednesday, October 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Joe Jamail Pavilion. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear first hand about what it is like to practice transactional law straight from the field. Attorneys will be attending from Sidley Austin, Kirkland & Ellis, Haynes & Boone, Bracewell and Morgan Lewis. Remember, attendance is limited and for dues paying members only, and you must RSVP to attend. Business casual attire is required for attendance. RSVP here.

Texas Venture Labs- Texas Venture Labs is a course where graduate students from Law, MBA, and sciences learn about how to get a new company investor ready and they apply those skills as part of team consulting to Austin startups. Texas Venture Labs has an info session on Wednesday 9/20 at 12pm in TNH 2.137 and applications on their website are due 10/2 by 8am. Term of the Week: Chapter 11– A reorganization bankruptcy, usually involving a corporation or partnership. A Chapter 11 debtor usually proposes a plan of reorganization to keep its business alive and pay creditors over time. Individuals or people in business can also seek relief in chapter 11.
